On the slopes of Taygetos there are two species of arbutus, with different flowering periods each (Autumn - Spring).
In the months of April - May we collect the arbutus honey, while the autumn one stays in the hive for the wintering of the bees.
It is a special type of honey, with a characteristic, slightly bitter taste. It has high nutritional and therapeutic value, as it contains the substance Arbutin, which has the natural property of cleansing the blood and regulating cholesterol levels. It crystallizes relatively quickly (3-4 months).
